Sporting Museum has organized a meeting launched the challenge to the Sporting CP Foundation to promote a debate at a meeting of museologists, about the role of museums in the personal valorization of the athletes and ex-athletes’ life experiences, as well as strategies for the social integration of former athletes.

Sporting Clube de Portugal Museum had organized an encounter to researchers and PhD students from museology and launched the challenge to the Sporting CP Foundation to promote debate, about the role of museums in the personal valorization of the athletes and ex-athletes’ life experiences, as well as strategies for the social integration of former athletes.

The role of museums goes far beyond the function of preserving the Humanity Material heritage, assuming more and more the responsibility of preserving the social chain of memory. The collection of stories allows the construction of narratives, enables access and participation as a tool for change, inclusion and social responsibility and, above all, trust. The strategies for preserving memory and emotional heritage promote intergenerational dialogue and individual and community empowerment.

Sporting Museum has taken a stance of valuing and integrating athletes and former athletes. In this sense, has joined the Sporting Foundation to further enhance the EDoC message., creating various activities whose protagonist is the former athlete. Sporting Museum launched the challenge to the Sporting CP Foundation to promote debate at a meeting of museologists, about the role of museums in the personal valorization of the athletes and ex-athletes life experiences, as well as strategies for the social integration of former athletes.

This meeting was organized by the Sporting CP Museum and took place on February 17, 2020, where around 20 researchers and PhD students met to discuss the social role of museums. The meeting started with a visit to the Museum, and ended in the auditorium, where we presented the EDoC project, debated strategies for museums to promote social inclusion and the empowerment of former athletes, analyzed examples of good practice and ended our intervention with the screening of the film that we prepared under EDoC Audiovisual Campaign.
